Prevent Disconnection of Gas and/or Electricity
-
Your energy supplier has informed us that you no longer have an energy contract. Without an energy contract, we must disconnect you from the electricity and/or gas network. Therefore, it is important that you quickly contact an energy supplier to conclude a new contract.
You can arrange this by:-
Registering directly with an energy supplier. You will need the EAN code of your connection. You can find this in the EAN codebook and on the annual statement from your energy supplier.
-
Asking your energy supplier to urgently process your registration (data processing can otherwise take several weeks).
-
Having your new contract take effect immediately and waiving the statutory cooling-off period.
Note: Your contract will only take effect once your energy supplier has also confirmed this in the national Central Connections Register.

If you do not have a valid energy contract, we must disconnect you from the electricity and/or gas network. Our technician will visit you for this. If necessary, we will engage a bailiff to ask the court for permission to disconnect the energy supply in your home. This can cost up to €580 (excluding VAT) per connection. You will also pay for the costs of the electricity and/or gas consumed during the period when you did not have a contract with an energy supplier. Finally, we may charge you additional costs such as collection costs. To be reconnected later, you will also have to pay costs again. Avoid these high costs by concluding an energy contract immediately.

Then you may be able to continue receiving energy. You must meet certain conditions for this. General information about debt assistance can be found on the national government website. For help with your debts, you can contact your municipality. It is important that your administrator/debt counselor contacts us within three working days to discuss this. You can have them contact us by phone at 010 – 892 31 75 or email fm_voorkomafsluiting@stedin.net. Note: Even after registering for a debt assistance program, you must pay your energy bill.
No disconnection during severe frost and serious health consequences
From October 1 to April 1, we do not disconnect during severe frost. The KNMI must measure an average temperature below 0 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days. Also, in the case of very serious health consequences for you or your housemates, we may not disconnect. You must then provide a doctor's certificate (not from your treating physician). We adhere to laws and regulations in our disconnection policy.
